Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) packing tape is known for its excellent adhesion properties and durability. It is widely used in various industries for packaging and sealing applications. The performance of BOPP tape can be significantly influenced by temperature variations, which affects its adhesive properties and overall integrity.

In cooler temperatures, BOPP tape may become less flexible, making it more prone to cracking or breaking when applied. Conversely, at higher temperatures, the adhesive can become too soft, leading to a reduction in its holding power. Understanding these characteristics helps users determine the best conditions for application and storage.
Performance Under Cold Conditions
When exposed to colder environments, BOPP packing tape can experience diminished effectiveness. The adhesive layer may stiffen, reducing its ability to bond securely to surfaces. This can be particularly problematic in refrigerated or outdoor settings where temperatures drop significantly.
Despite these challenges, many manufacturers produce cold-resistant variants of BOPP tape designed to maintain performance even in low temperatures. These specialized tapes often contain unique formulations that enhance flexibility and adhesion, allowing them to perform reliably under harsh conditions.
Performance Under Heat
High temperatures present their own set of challenges for BOPP packing tape. As temperatures rise, the adhesive can lose its viscosity, leading to a phenomenon known as “tape ooze,” where the adhesive seeps out from the sides of the tape. This can compromise the seal and lead to package failure.
To counteract heat-related issues, high-temperature resistant BOPP tapes are available. These tapes are engineered to withstand elevated temperatures without losing adhesion strength or structural integrity. They are particularly useful in shipping environments where packages may be exposed to direct sunlight or heated storage areas.
